The Top 10 Anime Deaths That Shook The World For Fans and Admirers

Death and Tragedy is something all anime fans are accustomed to seeing. Because more often than not, most of the anime series has the theme of death and tragic deaths in common. From Angel Beats to Fullmetal Alchemist, the creators of these series seem to be competing against one another for coming up with the most tragic of deaths for some of the most pivotal characters in the series.

We have seen some of the most tragic ends to a character's existence and if a list of top 10 anime deaths was to be made, we are surely going to shed out a tear. We had grown to love and adore these characters and now they are no more and going out like that just leaves an empty space and leaves behind an important lesson for all of us.

Not only does the death of these characters bring a change in the lives of characters of these series, it surely brings a change in our lives too. It makes us value relationships, it makes us understand how important time is and how we should value what we have.

So we have compiled a list of top 10 anime deaths. Now this list does not mean to rank the shows in any order. We are purely making this top 10 anime deaths list based on the emotional value each of these losses created in the series and our lives both.

1 - Maes Hughes - Fullmetal Alchemist

Starting off the list of top 10  anime deaths is Maes Hughes, a fictional character from the Fullmetal Alchemist series and its adaptations created by Hiromu Arakawa. The entire show is brilliantly done and I give it my high regard, and Hughes I believe was a great character who shouldn't have died, but in relation to the greater plan, his death seems to feel necessary. Even in death, he held a powerful influence over the people he knew, and this is explained in the show which I believe is one of the reasons his death was so tragic, simply because it was never allowed to be forgotten even in the final episodes where Roy confronts Envy.

2 - L - Deathnote

L Lawliet, who was more known by the mononym L, is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. Such was the influence of L’s death in the series that from his death onward the entire anime series took a darker note making this a  key entry into the top 10 anime deaths list.

However, I have to admit that considering the death note was one of my most favorite series ever, L’s death really hit me hard.

3 - Lelouch Lamperouge - Code Geass

Lelouch Lamperouge, whose real name is Lelouch vi Britannia, is the title character and of the Sunrise anime series Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. It is widely believed that the character did not die and the cart driver at the ending was Lelouch, well sorry to break it to you but the character did die and was confirmed in an official statement released by the creators of the series.

4 - Jiraiya - Naruto

If any death deserved to be in the top 10 anime death list then Jiraiya would be there purely because of the way he died.  Fighting 6 guys at a time, lost an arm, throat destroyed, got stabbed multiple times. The things he went through before dying was surely a scene that held great emotion and tears for the admirers of the Naruto series.

5 - Kaori Miyazono - Your Lie in April

Another important entry into the top 10 anime deaths list would be the death of Kaori Miyazono. She was a beloved character and the way the creators of the series pulled it off was epic to see. It did get us out of our seats but it also left us feeling sad and tragic over the death of such an adored person in the series.

6 - Koro-Sensei

Making its way to the top 10 anime deaths list would be Koro-Sensei. Do you know why? Because of the death of inevitable. Throughout the series, you knew it was coming and you could not do anything about it. But after having such a build-up to the tragedy, you would have expected to have lesser of an impact but you could not be more wrong. It left me in tears.  It was devastating.

7 - Nina Tucker - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Another one in the top 10 anime deaths list would be Nina Tucker. Although the two main characters of the series, the Elric brothers didn't really spend much time with Nina, the writers of this series brilliantly developed an emotional connection between her and the viewers. The writers made an emotional attachment. And as the series went on, the connection became stronger and stronger and when it happened, the connection, the emotions, all came tumbling down

8 - Portgas D. Ace - One Piece

Portgas D. Ace, born as Gol D. Ace and nicknamed "Fire Fist" Ace, is a fictional character in the One Piece franchise created by Eiichiro Oda and his death is one of the most important in the top 10 anime deaths list. The setup, all seeming to go well, as it always used to go on the show, the turnaround, the construction of Ace's character, his profound motive to live, the dedication, the spirit and finally, dying while thanking everyone and smiling at the end. The way he went out of the series left me in shambles.

9 - Spike Spiegel - Cowboy Bebop

Most of the deaths in the top 10 anime deaths list have been tragic but the impact left by the death of Spike Spiegel was something different. The death left behind an emotion, one does not expect. He was the center of the series, the character you follow in the entire series and it all came to an end with one word. Bang, he fell to the floor and the way it happened left a sinking feeling in my stomach.

10 - Nagisa Furukawa - Clannad: After Story

Nagis was such a sweet and kind girl - the kind of character, you feel emotionally attached to in any series. The way she went out was even sad as she passed away while giving birth to her and Tomoya’s daughter. The way it all happened, the impact it left me emotionally traumatized and that is how we wrap up this list of the top 10 anime deaths.
